Last Tuesday, Roddy White, a Duke fan, told a fan on Twitter that if #14 Mercer beat his Blue Devils, he’d give him “season tickets 50 yard line first row.” As it turned out, as you all know, Mercer beat Duke and Jabari Parker 78-71 largely due to Rodney Hood scoring just 6 points on 2/10 shooting from the field.
So, would the fan get those 50-yard line season tickets? No, but White said he would give him “tickets to the bears game since he is a bears fan” and that he was then “done with this bet.” On Monday afternoon, the Falcons wideout explained why he could not and would not uphold his end to the original bet:
Y’all people are crazy on twitter you want me to man up and pay a bet to a person that had nothing to lose in the bet #soundsridicules

Plus it’s illegal to gamble in the NFL — Roddy White (@roddywhiteTV) March 23, 2014
Obviously, White was never going to pay for a random fan to have season tickets on the fifty yard line first row. He’s smart for at least giving the guy a consolation prize, who tweeted this out on Sunday:
I don’t expect anything from @roddywhiteTV because it wasn’t even a legit bet. I do not want to be a distraction to The Falcons organization

Smart move on both sides.
