Jersey controversy as Alex Ovechkin throws out first pitch

Cal Ripken Jr. played a record 2,632 consecutive games for the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles honored the Iron Man by retiring his No. 8 jersey back in 2001.
When Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin threw out the first pitch at the Baltimore Orioles vs. LA Angels on Friday night, Ovechkin wore his regular No. 8, the same jersey Baltimore retired for Ripken.
I’m sure Ripken is okay with Ovechkin borrowing the number for the afternoon. For one, he did fly his pitch to the catcher.
The bigger controversy may be why Ovechkin threw out the first pitch for Baltimore and not the Washington Nationals.
