Last season it was Dontari Poe, the 346-pound nose tackle, who shot up draft boards after posting a 4.87 40-yard dash time and 44 reps on the 225-pound bench press.
This year, it’s Arkansas Pine-Bluff offensive tackle product, Terron Armstead, who is opening up eyes after running an unofficial time of 4.65 in the 40-yard dash.
According to NFL.com, the 6’5”, 306 pound Armstead, had the fastest 40-yard time ever by an offensive lineman. In 2007, Allen Barbre posted a 4.84 and then Bruce Campbell, a 4.84 in 2010. Oklahoma’s Lane Johnson has the second fastest time, 4.75, which he ran just after Armstead’s at Saturday’s 2013 NFL Combine (GIF below).
Armstead will likely hear his named called on day 2 of the draft, but this 40-yard time definitely won’t hurt his stock.
