The NFL and NFLPA will most likely be investigating this, and the Detroit Lions will be wishing that their star wide receiver, Calvin Johnson, had chosen a different set of words. With Suh being investigated for a hit-and-run, this bye week hasn’t exactly gone as planned for the Lions.
During a radio interview with 97.1, Johnson said, “He rung my bell pretty good, he got me, he caught me around the chin, that was a good hit,” Johnson said. “It’s a part of football, you get concussed, you gotta keep on playing. You can’t get afraid to go across the middle any more than you were at the beginning.”
Now, his comments could be taken out of context and so Johnson was asked to clarify in an interview with Mlive.com and this is what he had to say.
“Yeah, you could tell. It was obvious,” Johnson said, “I said exactly what I meant, but I guess you could take it out of context. What I meant when I said you have to keep going is you can’t be afraid to go over the middle. Not that you get concussed you have to keep playing. We know you can’t do that if you don’t pass the test, but you can’t be afraid to keep on going over the middle and doing what we’ve been doing.”
This is basically as bad as it gets for the Detroit Lions, especially with all of the lawsuits going around and all of the players that have brain damage because of repeated head trauma.
Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz has been very adement that Megatron did not play with a concussion, and that he passed their concussion test. And he claims that Calvin was very thoroughly checked before being sent back out onto the field.
Personally, I’d like to believe that the Lions would take the upmost caution with their best player and make absolutely sure that he was okay before sending him back out on the field again. My guess is that Calvin got knocked a little woozy, but was never officially concussed. The Lions couldn’t possibly risk Calvin’s long-term future and value to the franchise for one random game that they were already down by two touchdowns in.
