Houston Texans defensive end Antonio Smith was asked on Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports Network how Manti Te’o would be greeted if he were to be drafted by the Houston Texans and Smith said that he would be laughed at.
“Our locker room is full of clowns and, oh, man people would kill him. I mean he would be the butt of every joke for at least two, three years,” Smith said.
The NFL is notorious for their rookie hazing, and it seems like Manti Te’o would have it worse than most. Te’o has already been the butt of every joke for about two months now and according to Smith, that wouldn’t end anytime soon. Smith says that Te’o would need to accept the fact he was going to be made fun of and he would have to embrace it.
“You just got to be a good sport, man, it is what it is and you know it is out now, it’s out in the papers and on TV, so all you can do now, you can’t worry about it, you can’t change it, all you can do now is laugh — laugh with us while we’re laughing at you,” Smith said.
It doesn’t seem like things are going to get any easier for Manti Te’o as time goes on. I guess that’s the risk you take when you start dating a girl that you’ve never met.
