After an 8-11 start in a weak Eastern Conference, the Brooklyn Nets are already looking to shake up their roster, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. Stein is reporting that the Brooklyn Nets are looking to shop the team’s three biggest parts in point guard, Deron Williams, shooting guard, Joe Johnson and center, Brook Lopez.
League sources told ESPN.com that the Nets, off to a disappointing 8-11 start and looking to retool after last season’s $190 million roster filled with veterans couldn’t advance beyond the second round of the playoffs, have let it be known that they are prepared to move any of those franchise cornerstones in what would likely be separate deals if they came to fruition because of the high salaries each possess.
Sources say no trade is imminent involving any of the three players.
Williams, 30, has two years remaining on a five-year, $98 million deal. Johnson, 33, is set to make $23.2 million this season and nearly $25 million in 2015-16. Lopez, 26, signed a four-year, $60 million deal in 2012 and would be a free-agent after next season. Might the Cavs make a run at Lopez or Joe Johnson? Are the Bulls looking to add another scorer in Johnson? If any team makes a deal for one of these three, they’re going to need a lot of cap space.
