You have to tip your cap for the statement several players in the Nets-Cavs game made in warm-ups before Monday’s game. Kyrie Irving, LeBron James and the Nets’ Kevin Garnett, Deron Williams, Jarrett Jack and Alan Anderson all sported a “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirt, a reference to Eric Garner’s final words.
Garner, a New York man, was killed on July 17th after a NYPD police officer placed him in a chokehold while he was being arrested for selling loose cigarettes. If you haven’t already seen the video of the nearly 8-minute chokehold by the officer on Garner, you can watch it here. (Warning: Very Disturbing).
LeBron James said t-shirts are to acknowledge the family but added: "We have to be better for one another no matter what race you are."
