Tigers manager, Jim Leyland, is outwardly confident when it comes to his All-Star 3rd baseman.
During an interview on WXYT Radio in Detroit, Jim Leyland said, “In my opinion, Miggy is the MVP.”
This comes as no surprise with Miguel Cabrera’s productive year, batting .322 and leading MLB with 29 homers and 95 RBI.
However Leyland believes his third baseman has a notable contender for the MVP race–Trout. “He could run into one of these Wonderboy stories. You know, a young kid, 20 years old, everybody gets excited about that, everybody loves that. It has a nice ring to hit, it should have. So I think that’s dangerous for Miggy,” said Leyland.
L.A. Angels’ Trout has put up spectacular numbers: batting .345, 20 homers, 60 RBI, 87 runs, and 36 stolen bases.
Even with these jaw-dropping stats, Leyland is confident with Cabrera’s chances, “If the voting is today, Miguel Cabrera is the MVP.”
You really can’t go wrong with either Cabrera or Trout for the AL MVP, but the rookie ‘wonderboy’ is having a fantastic season.
