It was a drama filled night in Atlanta during the one game Wild Card play-in game.
During the eight inning, Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons hit a pop fly to left field with the ball landing between the Cardinals left fielder and shortstop. Simmons should have been ruled safe on the play, however, umpire Sam Holbrook called the infield fly rule even though the ball ended deep into the outfield.
Atlanta would have had bases loaded with one out, instead of having runners on second and third with two outs.
The game was delayed 18 minutes after Braves fan started throwing trash onto the field. When play resumed, the Braves then loaded the bases with a Brian McCann walk, but couldn’t capitalize.
St. Louis ended up winning 6-3. Tough way to begin the new baseball playoff format for commissioner Bud Selig and Atlanta’s faithful.
