2. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
Marcus Mariota is perfect for the Chip Kelly/Mark Helfrich offense. Last year he didn’t throw an interception until November 23rd last year. The Ducks did lose some weapons on offense, but Mariota will be more mature and advanced as a football player. Last year before his knee injury, Mariota was firmly in the mix for the Heisman and he also set a school record with 4,380 yards of total offense. Mariota has more than a legitimate shot to win the Heisman this fall.
1. Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
Quite obviously Jameis is the clubhouse leader here. As we have learned from the past, it is quite difficult to repeat as Heisman Trophy Winner, but Winston has a legitimate shot at it. The losses of Kelvin Benjamin and Devonta Freeman will impact the offense, as will the recent loss of Isaiah Jones, but Winston still has a plethora of weapons at wide receiver and tight end. If he can improve and develop as a passer, like he should, Winston will be a force yet again.
