Ohio State, Meyer Plan Georgia Satellite Camp

In an unsurprising move by Michigan’s rival to the south, Ohio State football announced that it will head to Gwinnett County, Georgia to host its own satellite camp this June. The camp will be held at Lawrenceville Central Gwinnett high school, according to (LCG HS) head coach Todd Wofford, just two weeks after Michigan football’s camp at Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove on June 2.

Wofford told 247sports.com that Ohio State’s high school relations department contacted him about his interest and that because of his (Wofford) “relationship with Coach Meyer and the staff from when they recruited LB Trey Johnson,” among other factors, the camp “made sense.”

The decision – lacking irony for obvious reasons – by Meyer and Co. will plant the Buckeyes in the heart of a region known for producing an abundance of FBS talent annually. In fact, several Top247 athletes (OT Tony Gray, DT Emmanuel McNeil, and 2018 QB Jarren Williams) currently attend the high school where camp will be held.

In addition to Ohio State, Wofford says he plans to invite two in-state programs, Georgia State and Georgia Southern. There is also news circulating that a satellite camp in Florida could be in the works for Ohio State.
