After their devastating upset loss to the Louisville Cardinals, 33-23, most of the Florida Gators got off the field as quickly as possible. A few stayed behind to talk to friends on Louisville and family members in the stands, but only one stayed to sing the alma mater.
Normally the team sings the alma mater with the band after a win, but Junior linebacker Darrin Kitchens chose sing it on this occasion too. He could be seen holding his helmet high and singing along with the band.
Kitchens did not play a snap, according to the game report, making this all the more interesting and inspiring. You would assume a player who didn’t get to play in a loss would feel dejected and want to go home, but Kitchens took the high road, supported his school and relished the moment. Kudos to him; more players should show school pride like this.
