Michigan State University provided “unnecessary detail” about visits to its counseling center by a student who has filed a federal lawsuit against the university alleging she was discouraged from reporting being raped by basketball players, the school’s interim president said Friday morning. John Engler, MSU’s President, had the following to say on the matter:
It appears someone in Michigan State's Office of General Counsel didn't properly advise the university. MSU's OGC lawyers may have violated their ethical responsibilities under MRPC 4.4 by violating the privacy rights of the young woman.
