Friday night’s Ohio State-Marquette Carrier Classic game was cancelled. The game was intended to be played in Charleston, SC on the USS Yorktown. Due to the low temperatures, around 34 degrees, condensation formed on the floor.
After about 50 minutes and countless attempts to mop up the court by each team’s players, and even Marquette’s head coach Buzz Williams, it was determined that the floor was not safe to play on.
As you can see by the video above, the conditions were serious enough to cancel the game. Yesterday, another Aircraft Carrier basketball game in Jacksonville Florida between Florida and Georgetown was called after halftime because of wet conditions. The next time someone considers playing a game on an aircraft carrier deck, they should think about bringing it a little further north and freezing a hockey rink on it.
