With news that LaVall Jordan is taking the Milwaukee-Wisconsin head coaching position, John Beilein now gets to find a replacement. Here are five candidates we believe could fill the open coaching void.
Cornell Mann
Currently an assistant at Iowa State, Mann has coached at Dayton, Western Michigan, been an assistant at Central Michigan, was the head coach at Oak Park High School in Detroit and been an assistant coach with the Detroit AAU team the ‘Michigan Mustangs’. The Cyclones lead defensive coach, Mann was also the main recruiter for PG Monte Morris out of Beecher, Michigan.
Marlon Williamson
Williamson, who was hired as an assistant at Pitt last year by Jamie Dixon (now at TCU), previously coached as an assistant at University of Massachusetts and is well respected in the Detroit area after being the head coach for the AAU team ‘The Family’ for nine seasons.
Darris Nichols
Nichols was one of Beilein’s top players on a 2006 West Virginia Elite 8 team. An assistant last year at Florida, Nichols also coached at Louisiana Tech, Wofford and Northern Kentucky.
CJ Lee
Lee saw significant playing time as a senior walk-on under Beilein at Michigan, served four years on the Michigan staff after graduating as the director of program personnel, and most recently, worked as an assistant at Marist College.
Patrick Beilein
The son of John Beilein, Patrick, like Darris, played at West Virginia for his dad. After graduating, Beilein then joined the Wolverines staff helping with day-to-day operations. Beilein spent last season as the head coach at Le Moyne, where he led them to a 10-17 record.
Also: Saddi Washington (Oakland assistant), Jeff Smith (Central Michigan assistant) and Chris Hunter (Michigan’s Director of Player Personnel).
