Blue II, the nine-year-old English Bulldog who was the mascot for Butler University, passed away on Saturday because of congestive heart failure. Blue II detailed his experience as Butler’s mascot with his own blog, which he updated one more time. Here’s a sample of his last post:
So with that, I say thank you. Over the last nine years, the Butler faithful have not only accepted me as their official mascot, but your pride in me has also made me America’s Dog. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, no dog has lived such a charmed life.
I owe a debt of gratitude to so many. I say thank you to everyone affiliated with Butler University, to my fans all over the world, my sponsors, my medical staff, my friends, and most of all, my family. It’s been and honor and a privilege to serve as your mascot and THE Butler Bulldog.
I’ve done my best to leave my mark on the job and this great University. I hope that I’ve left this place better than I found it. Regardless, I have no regrets as I gave it my all.
