Seth Rogen’s “Hilarity for Charity,” which helps to raise money for Alzheimer’s disease, was in Montreal as part of the Just For Laughs festival. Rogen wanted to check drinking out of the Cup off of his bucket list and so he managed to do that, thanks to P.K. Subban and two pitchers of beer (drinking commences at 3:50 of video).
Now P.K. Subban has not won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Montreal Canadiens and it is against tradition to drink out of the Stanley Cup or to touch it if you have not won it. It is scene as a way of cursing yourself so that you will never win it. Subban, knowing this as all hockey players do, made sure not to touch the Cup, but drank out of it with a straw.
You might think that Subban is in the clear with this little loop hole since he didn’t technically touch it, but I don’t think so. I think that the Hockey Gods will be upset by this, and the fact that the beer touched the Cup and he drank out of it will be enough to doom him and the Canadiens.
UPDATE:
It looks like P.K. Subban is very superstitious and the Cup they had on hand for this was actually a replica.
P.K. Subban said he didn’t actually drink the beer in the fake Cup with @SethRogen b/c he’s that superstitious. #MvsW
