If you watched HBO’s 24/7 series in 2010 on the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals, you’d know that Marc-Andre Fleury routinely practices ridiculous shootout saves like the one he made tonight. At the beginning of every month, the Pens have a shootout at the end of practice and whoever loses has to grow a mustache for the entire month; it is here that Fleury practices these acrobatic saves.
On Wednesday night, the 2003 #1 overall pick showcased what he’s been practicing over the years, absolutely robbing Daniel Alfredsson of what should’ve been a shootout goal by doing a cartwheel and making a glove save. Though the Wings lost the game, they still clinched a playoff spot for the 23rd straight year by picking up a point in the game.
