Boston Red Sox – Boston made huge splash this offseason by signing Carl Crawford to a $142MM contract, $12MM contract to closer Bobby Jenks, and trading for San Diego first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. Right now a grade of A is necessary for how they have upgraded their lineup. Although the opinion is Crawford is being vastly overpaid and now one of the highest paid baseball players in the entire league, Crawford brings a lot of speed to the top of their lineup. Him and Gonzalez give Boston the best lineup in the entire game and who ever said New York is the only team that tries to buy championships?
Philadelphia Phillies – The Big prize this off season Cliff Lee, is going back to Philadelphia. Lee signed a 5 year $120MM contract and will return to the Phillie’s where he pitched for won a World Series two years ago. The big news with the Lee signing was that he took a huge paycheck to play in Philly instead of playing in New York where he and his wife didn’t want to play at. This signing is definitely deserving of an A because it gives Philadelphia 4 potential aces in Roy Holliday, Roy Aswalt, Cole Hamles and Lee.
Washington Nationals – Signing Jayson Werth is a huge upgrade for the Nationals. Yes he was way overpaid and no other team was close to offering what Washington offered, Werth is a good hitter and should replace Adam Dunn at the plate and be a huge upgrade in the field. The Nationals are a team to watch out in the future with Strasburg, Werth and Ryan Zimmerman.
Chicago White Sox –Chicago looked to improve their offense in free agency and did exactly that by signing Adam dunn to a 4 year $56MM contract. Dunn will likely not have to play in the field which is his weakness and can DH and play first base along with Paul Konerko.
