The Sheffield Steelers of the U.K. Elite Ice Hockey League put down a new sheet of ice and as is standard with European hockey teams, the ice is covered in advertisements. Interestingly enough there is an ad for a transportation company called Ogilvie behind the net and it is black. In case you didn’t know, hockey pucks are still black. What are the odds that a puck disappears on this new ad? Not good, but I bet goalies are going to be extremely upset when the other team has the puck behind the net and they can’t see the puck.
While this may be questionable according to the IIHF rules, which says,
“The goal crease area shall be painted light blue. The inside of the goal area from the goal line to the back of the net shall be white.”
Apparently it is fine for the EIHL according to Steelers announcer Dave Simms. This is a terrible idea in my opinion and I can’t wait for something crazy to happen because of the black ad that results in a ridiculous goal.
