The play in question starts at the 2:16 mark of the video. Wheeling Nailers’ goalie Scott Darling made a save against the Orlando Solar Bears late in the 3rd period and Bears’ forward Ryan Cruthers kept poking at the puck. Eventually the puck crossed the goal line and referee Don Jablonski signaled that it was the tying goal to make the game 2-2.
Darling was so upset that Jablonski let the play go on for so long and that he eventually gave up the goal that he got up and threw the net at the referee. Darling was given a penalty on the play, and the Solar Bears went on to win the game 3-2 in overtime. I’ve seen goalies throw tantrums before, but never attack a referee before; he’ll be lucky if he doesn’t get suspended for this.
