Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder is extremely passionate. He is known for his willingness to spend money in order to get the Redskins to the Super Bowl, and this strategy has failed more than it has succeeded.
Last week after an emotional win over the Dallas Cowboys, Snyder rushed down to the locker room to congratulate everyone and to collect the game ball. This week, after the huge Monday Night Football victory over the New York Giants, the media was allowed into the locker room a little early. Early enough, to catch Snyder telling a Redskins employee, “I hate those motherf——.”
The Redskins were also reportedly motivated by a quote from Giants owner John Mara, who said that the $36 Million in cap penalties the NFL imposed on the Redskins was fair, and that they were lucky they didn’t lose draft picks.
That wasn’t all the Redskins were using for motivation, they were also using the referees as motivation. The team had a list posted in the locker room that showed the Redskins had recorded 93 penalties this year, while the Cowboys had recorded 90 penalties; both were teams that were penalized for salary cap violations and had to forfeit cap room. Then it shows the two least penalized teams in the league, the Giants and the Falcons, both of whom helped lead negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement between the referees and the NFL.
Needless to say the Redskins motivational tools paid off and they got the victory. Robert Griffin III is going to be an absolute terror for the NFC East during his career.
