This is literally one of the most absurd plays that I’ve ever seen, at any level of football. This game between Bergen Catholic High (N.J.) and Washington Friendship Collegiate Academy (D.C.) was an absolute battle that saw Bergen Catholic pull out the win 48-42 in overtime.
I wondered when I first saw this play was, who ended up getting credit for this catch? As it turns out, J.J. Kulcsar received credit for the catch and James Dawson was credited for only the touchdown. Kulcsar made the initially amazing catch, and did everything he could to hang onto it and try to get into the end zone, but when Dawson was pushing him something must have clicked for him that Kulcsar wouldn’t get in. At that moment, he took the ball away and walked into the end zone.
The sheer strength and coordination it would have taken to catch that ball around the defender is simply unbelievable. Kulcsar was also the receiver that caught the game-winning touchdown in overtime from quarterback Jonathan Germano, who threw for a school-record 355 yards in the contest.
Kind of reminds you of this catch, doesn’t it?
