Tony Alford, whose nine-year run at Ohio State is the longest of his career, is the target to join his current employer’s biggest rival, FootballScoop has learned. A deal could be reached as early as today if the parties come to an agreement sources shared.
Alford would be joining the reigning national champions and first-year staff of Sherrone Moore at Michigan, sources tell FootballScoop.
Prior to Ohio State, Alford spent six years at Notre Dame, first under Charlie Weis and then Brian Kelly. Among other Power Conference programs, Alford also has been at Iowa State, Louisville and Washington.
In addition to his strong work developing running backs, Alford also has proved an elite recruiter; the Buckeyes have sent numerous tailbacks into the NFL since Alford arrived at the program prior to the 2015 season.
