With 5:54 left in the third period Columbus Blue Jackets forward Vinny Prospal and Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader got into a bit of a shoving match. As they were separated, Prospal pointed to the scoreboard to let Abdelkader know that the Blue Jackets were up 3-0, in case he had forgotten. The scoreboard point earned Prospal a 10-minute misconduct which seems extreme. Even as a Red Wings fan, I found what Prospal did hilarious.
After the game, Columbus Blue Jackets Head Coach Todd Richard voiced his displeasure over the incident:
“I didn’t like it,” Richards said, “We’re not about that.” Richards said he discussed the subject with his team after the game.
Prospal had no comment about the incident after the game, though I’m not sure what the big deal is. This isn’t the first time a scoreboard point has happened against Detroit this year.
