This will go down as one of the bigger collapses in NHL history. The Toronto Maple Leafs had a 4-1 lead with just under 11 minutes left in the third period when the unthinkable began to happen. Nathan Horton got things going for the Boston Bruins with this shot that started a monumental comeback.
Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask did his part too, stopping a key Matt Frattin breakaway with less than four minutes left that would have put the game all but out of reach.
With the goalie pulled and less than 1:30 left in the game, Milan Lucic went to the front of the net and was able to find a rebound to bring the deficit to one. If Lucic went to the front of the net more often, he would be a 25-30 goal a year player.
Less than 40 seconds later, Patrice Bergeron managed to fire this shot past James Reimer with the massive Zdeno Chara in front of the net screening Reimer to tie the game and send it to overtime.
This was the reaction of Maple Leafs fans watching the game outside of the Air Canada Center in Toronto.
In the overtime, Patrice Bergeron went back to work and was able to find the loose puck and bury it. Breaking Toronto Maple Leafs fan’s hearts across the world.
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle said after the game that he thought “we ran out of gas,” which is the clubhouse leader for understatement of the year.
The reaction out of the fans standing outside watching the game is priceless.
