This has nothing to do with the fact that notorious cheap shot artist Matt Cooke is involved with the play. As I watch this over and over again, it looks as though Cooke stomps on Erik Karlsson’s leg as they collided. Karlsson won the Norris trophy last year as the league’s best defenseman, and is easily the Ottawa Senators best player. The Senators are going to be in some serious trouble for the rest of the year with Karlsson missing the rest of the season with a lacerated Achilles tendon. The only questions left are, did Cooke do this on purpose? And will the play be reviewed by Brendan Shanahan for a possible suspension?
Update on Karlsson: Erik suffered a laceration to his left achilles, which will require surgery to repair. He will be out indefinitely.

The AP photographer that took the photos of Erik Karlsson getting his Achilles cut is Gene J. Puskar. pic.twitter.com/WYQMWNWn

Karlsson was in obvious pain immediately after the play, and he even tried to skate on it before the pain became unbearable. Hopefully he will be back next year better than ever.
