San Jose Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle must have been very excited that he wasn’t traded after weeks of speculation because he came out and had one of the best goals this year. Boyle absolutely embarrassed Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter, who is thought to be a Norris Trophy candidate, when Boyle caught Suter watching the puck and fishing with his stick. After dangling Suter, Boyle moved on to Niklas Backstrom who was caught being overly aggressive on the play.
The 5-on-3 power play goal gave the Sharks a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with just under four minutes played in the game. ESPN’s John Buccigross summed up the play with a pretty solid tweet:
Dan Boyle is the class President of The University of Northern Danglefornia
