Florida Panthers forward Kris Versteeg knocked Alexander Ovechkin down with a cross-check away from the play while he didn’t have the puck; the Washington Capitals forward took exception to this and went after Versteeg. No real punches were thrown and Ovechkin just tried to pull Versteeg’s jersey and shoulder pads over his head. Even the referees didn’t think it was much of a fight, both players received two-minute minor penalties for roughing.
No reason for Ovechkin to be fighting anyways, the last thing the Capitals need with their season going horribly is to have their best player break his hand on a visor in a fight. Ovechkin has fought three times in his NHL career, with the most recent fight against Brandon Dubinsky on December 12th, 2010.
