The Fort Wayne TinCaps are the Single A Affiliate for the San Diego Padres and they decided to do a “Social Media Night” on Thursday night. They created a special jersey to honor all 6,000 of their Twitter followers, putting each persons Twitter handle onto the specially made uniform.
Here are some more details about the uniforms and the event from MiLB.com:
“We like to say that Fort Wayne TinCaps baseball is ‘All About You,'” TinCaps Vice President of Marketing Michael Limmer said. “With these Social Media Night jerseys, we took that expression to heart and made the jerseys all about our fans and followers. They’ve always had the back of our organization. Now we’re giving back to them on Social Media Night by putting them on the players’ backs.”
The TinCaps’ marketing department came up with the concept of the jerseys in the offseason and used the handles of those following @TinCaps as of March 11 for the jerseys, which were produced by Wilson Sporting Goods. The jerseys are white, with “@TinCaps” printed in red across the chest, and the green-printed Twitter handles adorned throughout.
These jerseys are a pretty cool idea and I’m sure the DieHard TinCaps fans will be thrilled to have their Twitter handle on the uniform of the team they love. It’s definitely a great way to show the fans their appreciation.
