The Oklahoma City Barons and Grand Rapids Griffins were scheduled to play Game 4 of the AHL Western Conference Final on Friday night, when another set of Tornados touched down in Oklahoma City. Fans and the teams who were at the arena to cover at the underground parking garage of the Cox Convention Center.
Game 4 was postponed until Saturday night at 7 pm central time, and Game 5 was moved from Saturday night to Sunday at 4 pm. The postponement was due to the flooding that took part in parts of the arena. From the AHL:
With the Oklahoma City metro area under a tornado emergency, the arena was evacuated and all occupants were moved to safety in the parking garage beneath the Cox Convention Center at approximately 6:45 p.m. local time. After nearly 90 minutes, everyone was permitted to return to the building but it was determined that in the best interests of fans, players, officials and staff, the game would not be played as scheduled.
According to the Oklahoman, there was a “major water leak” in the radio booth and there was a steady stream of water spewing out. Check out the photos:
