Lee Westwood whiffs on shot at The Players Championship

It’s not often you see a professional golfer whiff on a shot during a big time tournament, but that is exactly what Lee Westwood did here. Westwood was pinned up against a tree on the 1st hole of the 3rd round of The Players Championship when he whiffed on his shot. The whiff led to a double-bogey and a pretty embarrassing start.
In Westwood’s defense, you can clearly see during the slow motion replay that he dropped his hands on the swing and clipped the tree on his downswing, throwing off his swing and causing the whiff. Unfortunately for Westwood, that still counts as a stroke, as much as he would like to say it was a practice swing.
