The Texas Longhorns were trying to score a touchdown to tie the game against Iowa State when runningback Jonathan Gray put the ball on the turf twice. On the first fumble it appeared that the ball came out before Gray was down and Iowa State recovered the fumble, but the call on the field stood. On his next carry, Gray clearly fumbled the ball but was able to recover it before any damage was done. Case McCoy then pounded the ball in on the next play to give Texas the tie and the lead after the extra point with 51 seconds left.
