A story from David Jones of PennLive.com has put Penn State’s handling of injured players in the forefront. According to the lawsuit, PSU headcoach James Franklin encouraged the head doctor to put injured players back on the field:
1. BREAKING: Former Penn State director of athletic medicine Dr. Scott Lynch has filed a lawsuit against the university, athletic director Sandy Barbour and football coach James Franklin among others at PSU.

2. Complaint filed by Lynch’s attorney Steve Marino of Philadelphia, alleges that Franklin “on multiple and repeated occasions… attempted to interfere with [Lynch’s] autonomous authority to determine medical management and return-to-play decisions related to student athletes.”

3. The suit also alleges that Lynch reported this behavior to Barbour and other university officials but that his concerns were dismissed. The suit further alleges that Franklin’s complaints led to Lynch’s removal.

4. Suit alleges that PSU officials conspired to construct a cover story that it desired a team orthopedic physician in the State College area rather than at Hershey Medical Center where Lynch is based and alleges retaliation that amounts to a violation of PA’s Whistleblower Law.
