Albert Breer, an Ohio State grad and NFL writer for CBS, had the following tweet about Jabrill Peppers on Michigan’s defense:
Peppers is incredibly versatile and talented. Great with the ball in his hands. But he's not even the best defensive player on his own team. https://t.co/0E2PgNDmT1

Breer later tweeted that he believes Jourdan Lewis, Chris Wormley and Taco Charlton are all viewed as better defenders than Peppers.
Bobby Carpenter, a one-time OSU player who used to play in the NFL, then tweeted the following to Breer about No. 5:
Peppers is terrible in man and that's playing LB, he doesn't possess the requisite speed to play anything but zone at the next level https://t.co/5xBdDFClc6

Peppers is still looked as a top five pick in next year’s NFL Draft but Carpenter doesn’t believe he’ll be a first-rounder:
Mathieu, even though he is coming off an ACL has struggled and I don't think Peppers is faster. He's not going 1st either, sorry https://t.co/D2Dzwf0kPg

I think Peppers would be a better offensive than defensive player at the next level. He's a better ball in hand player
