Drake Harris’ Move To Defense Is A Good Sign For UM’s Freshmen WRs

Drake Harris announced Monday that he will be moving from wide receiver to cornerback for his redshirt junior season. Harris, who was likely to crack the rotation at wide receiver next fall, likely believes he can be more help to the Wolverines by playing on the defense.

Even though the Wolverines are replacing their entire starting WR group, this should be a very good sign for the early enrollee freshmen WRs and those coming in during the summer.

Tarik Black and Donovan Peoples-Jones could potentially be two of the Wolverines’ starting wide receivers this fall. Add Nico Collins, Brad Hawkins, and Oliver Martin to the fold and you’re looking at a very solid young group of pass catchers. There’s a chance Hawkins, who did a prep year last season, could play at safety though.

Also 6-foot-3 like Harris, Richard Sherman switched from WR to CB during his junior season at Stanford under Jim Harbaugh.
