It looks like the Alabama Crimson Tide have found a new method to motivate their defensive players. Alabama LB Reggie Ragland showed off the new “Ball Out” Belt that is given out to defensive players that had the best day in their scrimmage and did their best to try and force turnovers.
From 24/7 Sports:
Ragland led the defense with five tackles, one tackle for loss, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery in Friday’s scrimmage, and because of that, he was awarded the belt Monday morning during a team meeting. He held it up high for everyone to read its words.
“On the belt is says ‘Ball Out Champ,’ Ragland said. “Whoever is ballin’ that day is the champ.”
The coaches came up with the idea in order to motivate guys to try and force more turnovers since they had a down year last year.
Offensive players have started to get jealous too. O.J. Howard had this to say:
“We don’t have one, man. It’s sad to say,” Howard said. “I think it would be cool to give one — I think they started that this year. … We don’t have one on offense. Hopefully I can talk to Coach (Lane Kiffin) and see if we can get a belt. But right now, we don’t have one.”
