Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty has had a rough start to the season. He had to have an emergency appendectomy, was allegedly bitten by Mikhail Grabovsky and then endured a laceration to his ribs from a skate. Pacrioretty had been unable to find the back of the net this year until fate gave him a lucky bounce.
Late in the 3rd period he dumped a puck in from just behind the red line on Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward. It skipped twice prior to getting to the net and bounced right past Ward. Plays like this are difficult for goaltenders because bouncing pucks almost have a mind of their own. When they’re on edge they can skip in any direction, particularly if they hit something on the ice. It always seems to be a wacky goal that breaks a scoreless streak, and unfortunately for Ward, this play is destined for the SportsCenter Not Top 10.
