The Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL always seem to be trying some gimmick to get in the news, and this time it was no different. On Friday night, before their game against the Las Vegas Wranglers, the Condors were going to have a condor on a perch at center ice for the national anthem. That plan went a rye when the bird tried to escape and then the bird handler fell on the ice while trying to put it back in its cage. A few players tried to corral the bird using their sticks to get it towards the cage, but most of them just tried their best to avoid it as it eventually made its way down their tunnel to the lockerroom.
Honestly, this is hysterical. I can’t believe that the girl signing the National Anthem didn’t start laughing mid-song while watching the bird’s handler out there. I also had no idea condors were that big. Good thing it didn’t start flying around the rink and terrorizing the fans in the stands, that would have been a real disaster.
